From Country Roots to Your New Shed
I grew up in country Victoria, where sheds were just part of life. They weren’t fancy – they were where Dad sheered the sheep, ran his business, where the hay went, where things got fixed. They meant something.
After a stint in the city that never quite fit, I found my way into the shed industry in 2006. I spent years working for two of Australia’s biggest shed companies, eventually running retail channels for a major manufacturer. I learned the business inside and out – quoting, sales, operations, supply chains, the lot.
But something kept bothering me. The bigger these companies got, the more they forgot who they were selling to. Once a customer paid their deposit, the warmth disappeared. Farmers and tradies became file numbers. These were big purchases – meaningful ones – and the excitement should go both ways. But corporate structures don’t leave much room for genuine care.
I knew the only way to build what was missing was to build it myself. So, I started Global Sheds from scratch – owner-run, Australian-focused, and built on a simple idea: treat every customer the way I’d want my dad treated.
It hasn’t always been easy. I remember one stretch when my youngest was waking hourly through the night, my husband was working away, and I was keeping the business alive at 2am because that’s when I could. I’d poured my savings into getting Global Sheds off the ground. I was exhausted, stretched thin, and wondering if I could keep going.
Then a customer called just to say thank you. He told me how much he appreciated the way my team had looked after him. And there it was – the whole reason I’d started. That call lit the fire again right when I needed it.
Today, Global Sheds supplies premium Australian steel shed kits to customers across the country. We use BlueScope steel because I trust it – and because keeping things Australian matters to me. We’re losing too much of our identity to cheap imports and foreign ownership. For a purchase this significant, quality and origin should mean something.
I’m still the one answering emails at odd hours. I’m a mum of five running a national business from Cairns, and I wouldn’t have it any other way. When you call us, you’re not getting a call centre. You’re getting people who genuinely care about getting your shed right.
